Ever fancied being able to play a particular favourite song?
Ever been put - off by difficult arrangements bought from a music shop?
The song you want is only available in a large volume or album?

I can easily simplify the music exactly to your ability -
then send you a short extract of the music completely free to see if you like it.
If you like the arrangement, the full version can be sent ready to print & play.

Also music for keyboard/ guitar

"I can't find the music I want anywhere.... it must be out of stock!"

I will sort all that out, then format the music to your own ability & standard.

For an easier version of the music, various elements are simplified such as:-
* Key made easy  * Right hand melody & chord symbols  * Simplified rhythm/ grouping

If you require a more difficult version as you progress, the music can easily
be upgraded to suit your new skill level.

Online Music Theory in your home (supplement) *

Stage One - Melody writing
"There is never enough time in the piano lesson to do some theory" (pupil)

I can provide you with special on-line exercises to do your work at home,
...... so you don't even need to budge an inch!

Exercises can be for all levels, and it provides fun for the lessons and at home.

Here is an example of an advanced student's theory of music homework -

The exercise is now sent to the student's email address as an attachment.

Stage Two - complete exercise

Picture

The exercise has now been received and opened by Thomas.

Using the 'musical notes' palette above the heading, the remaining melody
is constructed by clicking the cursor/mouse into the relevant parts of the music grid (stave).

Once it is complete, Thomas can then play-back the melody (MIDI) to check it,
then send it back to me to be marked.

Stage Three - marked & re-sent

Using music software, I am able to listen to Thomas' melody, then
provide written comments and feedback in the
form of praise & constructive criticism. If part of the exercise needs improving,
I can show a model example using the 'tutor's stave' below.

Using various tools from the drop-down menus, you can add your own details
to the music such as dynamics, phrasing, expression and character markings.

The exercise is now sent back to Thomas so he can reflect on the subject -
ready for the next lesson - hence saving lesson time.

The above software can also be used simply to receive well-known pieces of music by myself.
Pupils and students can even use the software just for fun, and create their own tunes.

Monitoring progress

Picture
End of year/term progress report
For learners who enter into regular tuition, I provide an end of year
appraisal form showing parents the overall progress made by their child.
This provides a breakdown and summary of various results,
and in a user-friendly way discusses about your child's abilities, strengths
and improvements. Each subject offers praise where due, and awards
a grade from A - D. Some of the subjects included are:
Posture, Tone Control, General exercises (scales/ arpeggios),
Intonation, Practise, Aural & Sight Tests, Theory, Motivation, Performance,
Punctuality & Attendance, Rhythm & Counting skills, Technique, Overall grade awarded.
The appraisal can also provide a "potential future level" for any aspiring young musician
wishing to take their music further. UCAS points are also available.

Please contact me for more details

Entry Level ~ easy warm-up for adult or older learners

Picture
Selection of Entry Level major & minor scales

Entry Level music is available between grades.
This is organised internally by myself for the slightly older pupil
or adult learner. The Entry Level is ideal preparation for leading into the graded exams -
and is one step closer to setting the scene for further exams.

The test consists of two pieces of own choice music, a few exercises (see left),
and a more comfortable and approachable introduction into the aural and sight tests.
Remember that you do not need to do these tests; good progress can still be made.

Answers to the 3D stereogram >>>  Left = Bass Clef       Middle = Pair of musical notes (quavers)           Right = Treble Clef

Harmony & Counterpoint Example

For the more serious musician who wishes to pursue their music to a higher level,
I also teach advanced theory of music. This may be carried out in exercise books
in pencil, or on your PC.

Subjects include Harmony & Counterpoint/ Cadences/ Chords and their inversions;
Figured Bass, Transposition, Orchestral & Ensemble score, advanced melody writing
involving modulations, general musicianship skills.... and much much more.

Exercise here showing a model answer of Harmony & Counterpoint in F minor.
Students can also play-back the exercise (MIDI) on their PC.

*ONLINE MUSIC THEORY

This service can only be supported with regular face-to-face music theory and piano tuition combined.
Students would be issued with the PC software which acts as a platform and template for your work - charged separately to tuition fees.
All exercises and music theory work must also be supported with relevant theory exercise books to complete certain exercises in pencil.
Similar to a school, all theory should be submitted and marked before continuing onto the next subject.

Depending on the exercise, you would also need some tuition on how to use the software effectively to make good progress.
The software is not suitable for young children beginners or adult starters - some basic theory would be taught first during lessons.
A pupil (adult or child) reaching Prep/ Entry Level piano would then be ready to start Grade 1 theory of music, and possibly online theory.

Please ask for more details.
